DRINKING WATER FOR EVERYONE

PRECIOUS DRINKING WATER

Clean drinking water is a scarce commodity in Kathmandu.

In general, tap water cannot be used for drinking or to wash vegetables. It is usually contaminated. Besides that, even after boiling is still has a very unpleasant taste.

For this reason, the fountain at Shanti is available not only to station residents, but all of the people in the direct vicinity.

It is the only public fountain in the entire city with clean water. Every day, people from the shanty towns come with large canisters to collect clean drinking water.

The results came immediately after the station opened in 2010. Cholera and typhus infections in the slums around the Shanti station have declined by 60% since then.
